Drift — Spatial Sleep Sounds
The Short Version
Drift collects zero personal data. No analytics. No telemetry. No servers. Your soundscapes stay on your device. This is not marketing. This is our architecture.
What We Collect
Nothing.
Drift collects zero data from the app. We do not collect:
- Usage statistics (which sounds you play, how often you use the app)
- Listening habits (which mixes you save, how long you listen)
- Device information (iPhone model, iOS version, battery level)
- Personal data (name, email, location, IP address)
- Crash reports or error logs
- In-app purchase history
- Audio recordings or microphone access
We genuinely do not know that you are using Drift. There are no analytics SDKs embedded in the app. No Firebase. No Mixpanel. No Google Analytics. Nothing.
How Drift Works (Offline-First)
All audio files are bundled with the app during installation. When you download Drift from the App Store, you download ~150 MB of audio files (rain, thunder, fire, etc.). These files are stored in your device's local sandbox.
No streaming. No network requests. When you play a sound, it's read from local storage and played through your device's audio output. Nothing is sent over the internet.
Your saved mixes (Mix Memory) are stored locally. When you save a mix, we store the orb positions and volume levels in your device's local database (Core Data). This data never leaves your device unless you enable iCloud sync (see below).
Optional iCloud Sync (CloudKit)
If you enable iCloud sync in Settings → iCloud, your saved mixes (Mix Memory) will sync across all iOS devices signed into the same Apple ID.
How CloudKit works:
- Your saved mixes are uploaded to Apple's iCloud servers (not Ekoche servers)
- Data is encrypted end-to-end using Apple's encryption
- We never see the contents of your synced data
- Apple may store metadata (file size, sync timestamp) but not the contents
iCloud sync is optional and disabled by default. If you do not enable it, your mixes stay on your device only.
For more information about how Apple handles iCloud data, see Apple's Privacy Policy.
In-App Purchases (Apple)
If you purchase Lifetime Access ($4.99), the transaction is processed by Apple, not Ekoche Studios.
What Apple collects:
- Your Apple ID and payment information
- Purchase history (stored in your Apple account)
- Receipt data (encrypted)
What Ekoche receives: A cryptographic receipt that proves you purchased Lifetime Access. This receipt is stored locally on your deviceand never transmitted to our servers (because we don't have servers).
We do not receive your name, email, credit card number, or any personal information from Apple.
Permissions Drift Requests
Drift requests the following iOS permissions:
- Audio playback: To play ambient sounds (required for the app to work)
- Background audio: To continue playing sounds when the app is in the background
- Haptic feedback (optional): To enable Heartbeat Rhythm (Lifetime feature)
Drift does not request:
- Microphone access
- Camera access
- Location access
- Contacts access
- Photo library access
- Calendar access
- Notifications (no push notifications)
Third-Party Services
Drift uses zero third-party analytics or tracking services. No:
- Google Analytics
- Firebase
- Mixpanel
- Segment
- Facebook SDK
- Crashlytics
The only third-party service Drift interacts with is Apple's CloudKit (if you enable iCloud sync). See the section above for details.
Website vs App Privacy
This privacy policy applies only to the Drift iOS app.
Our website (ekoche.com) uses Google Analytics and Meta Pixel to measure marketing effectiveness. Your app data is never connected to website data. These are separate systems.
See our global privacy policy for details about website tracking.
Your Rights
We can't sell your data because we don't have it.
Since Drift collects zero data, there is nothing to:
- Request access to (no data stored)
- Request deletion of (no data stored)
- Request portability of (no data stored)
- Opt out of (no tracking to opt out of)
Your listening habits, saved mixes, and preferences stay on your device. You own your data. We never see it.
Children's Privacy (COPPA)
Drift is safe for children because we collect zero data from anyone, including children under 13.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since we don't collect personal information from anyone, this is inherently true.
Changes to This Policy
If we ever change our privacy practices (e.g., add analytics), we will:
- Update this page
- Update the app description in the App Store
- Increment the app version number
We will never retroactively collect datafrom previous versions. If you don't update the app, your privacy is preserved.
